Skygolpe is a paramount figure within the realm of digital art, notably in the domain of NFTs. In 2022, he transcended the digital sphere by successfully embarking on a journey into the world of physical art, unveiling his groundbreaking project, “Paint on Pixel,” through an auction at the esteemed Christie’s. Skygolpe’s emblematic, faceless portraits are the result of a singular fusion of tangible layers with digital elements. Over recent years, his market presence has culminated in a sales volume of several million euros, positioning him among the top 100 digital artists globally.
Paint on Pixel represented Skygolpe’s first venture into physical painting. The series has garnered international acclaim since its debut at Christie’s in 2022, where it pioneered physical paintings auctioned through their blockchain-authenticated digital certificates. Over time, the series has evolved, spanning global exhibitions and returning to Christie’s Hong Kong in May 2024. This latest iteration in New York deepens its exploration of how the digital and physical converge to challenge the notion of Art.
At the heart of the series are Skygolpe’s iconic faceless silhouettes, which serve as existential spaces for reflection. Rendered in vivid colors and layered brushstrokes, these figures blend the organic with the mechanical, confronting viewers with questions about identity in an age increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence. The catalog offers an intimate look at this body of work, contextualizing its innovative approach to merging digital and physical media. It captures the intricate balance of chaos and control, where imperfections become integral to the artistic process.
In addition to the exhibition, Skygolpe unveils Digital Maieutics, a thought-provoking publication that expands the artist’s recent experimentation into the realm of philosophy and AI.
Inspired by Socratic methods of uncovering latent ideas, this work explores dialogues between humans and AI, as well as among AI entities themselves. By positioning artificial intelligence as both a tool and a partner in creative discovery, Digital Maieutics reimagines how artistic and intellectual ideas can be shaped.
