Fakewhale is an organization led by artists, collectors, and entrepreneurs. Founded in January 2021, Fakewhale has been supporting the digital underground scene by collecting more than 1000 pieces since the inception of Tezos tokens. As of 2022, having regard to the lack of in-depth information about art and artists, we implemented our focus on curation, documentation, and IRL exhibitions, moved solely by the desire to create an accurate snapshot of this pivotal moment of digital art. NFTs act as a container for art, thereby enhancing the inherent qualities art already possesses but lacked the means to make full use of. Currently, despite the potential of this technology, there are still many gray areas in the crypto-art space, where shallowness and greed for profit endure creating false misconceptions and narratives. However, five years from now, we envision a demystification of these pre-constructed concepts, since we firmly believe that cultural legacy and the impact of art will prevail in the long term.
